HU Current projects
The Pro Vitam Research Institute is currently implementing five research projects financed from European and national funds. In addition, we have developed an ELISA test for the detection of anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies, which is today a CE IVD marked product of our startup, Proel Biotech.
National Platform for Semiconductor Technologies (PNTS)

Lead: National Institute for Research and Development in Microtechnologies (IMT Bucharest). Pro-Vitam is a consortium partner.
Period: from October 2024, 60 months
Pro-Vitam is developing new methods for testing and result interpretation in diagnostic laboratories:
- a portable reader able to read and interpret visual and immunofluorescent rapid tests, ELISA plates, membrane ELISA cartridges and other laboratory formats;
- a platform-independent mobile application that digitises, interprets and stores the results of manually performed tests;
- lateral flow immunoassays (LFAs) for the direct detection of viral antigens (HCV core antigen, HBe antigen);
- a multiplex LFA/ELISA screening test for viral hepatitis B, C and Delta.
CANTAVAC 2.0 — Developing translational research for vaccines, sera and other biological medicines

Pro-Vitam contributes industrial research and experimental development work towards biological products. This includes single B cell VH-VL native pairing and sequencing — a workflow that can later be extended to other immune repertoires.
HepBpanVac — Preclinical development of a next-generation pangenotypic chimeric vaccine against hepatitis B virus

Period: 2025 – December 2026
Pro-Vitam designs and validates an ELISA test for analysing the HBV-specific immune response. The test is used to evaluate the new chimeric antigens, including against viral variants carrying escape mutations to the current vaccine.
Biobank.ro — a data and biological sample centre for AI-assisted medical research

Period: from 2025, 36 months
Romania's first private biobank: an infrastructure of biological samples and medical data that is harmonised, interoperable and GDPR-compliant, built privacy-by-design. It creates the conditions for developing artificial-intelligence models in rare and autoimmune disease research. Pro-Vitam contributes its clinical and laboratory expertise; the clinic has already taken part in validating a federated-learning solution on real-world data.

Pro-Vitam validates and optimises a DNA-methylation-based epigenetic model for predicting biological age in the Romanian population. The existing epigenetic clocks — Horvath, Hannum and the targeted models — were developed on Western European and North American populations. The project tests their accuracy on Romanian samples using digital PCR and identifies differences in methylation profiles.
